Sarah Schwerdel, PhD, LMHC, has been with Mass Bay Counseling since 2005. A licensed mental health counselor, Dr. Schwerdel earned her master’s degree in counseling psychology from Boston College, and her doctorate from Lesley University. Prior to joining Mass Bay, she worked as an individual and group therapist, program coordinator, and agency liaison in substance abuse and mental health clinics.
Dr. Schwerdel works with adults and couples, on issues that range from stress and adjustment disorders, relationship struggles, family concerns, substance abuse, and mood disorders (and anything in between!). Her approach to therapeutic work is eclectic and client centered; her first priority when meeting with a new patient is to establish a therapeutic relationship in which the patient feels safe and able to communicate. Dr. Schwerdel often uses humor in her work and loves the process of getting to know each of her patient’s unique personalities and strengths. Finding a therapist that you can connect with can, at times, feel like an overwhelming process. It is her goal to support her clients during this process and work with them in creating and reaching goals, decreasing problematic symptoms, and living a more fulfilling life.
Outside of Mass Bay, Dr. Schwerdel is an adjunct professor. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, traveling, and volunteering.
